Vacation?

So...I my thoughts have been of planning a vacation.  A real vacation.  A vacation where DH and I go alone and we have some fun.

..but I'm feeling a bit guilty for it.

For years all we've done is save our money.  We used our savings and got a failed IVF.  Now without much savings, we should be responsible, especially in this economy, and continue to save.  But I can't stop thinking of a vacation.  I'm ready to do something fun!

Am I alone in this...do any of you feel guilty for doing something for 'you' instead of everything you can to have a baby?

  1. Yes! We aren't taking a vacation this year, we are cutting back on going out to eat/movies/shopping and despite hating my current job and struggling with a work/school balance I'm staying put to keep saving money. We've just started, but know at least an IUI will be forthcoming. I totally feel guilt about not saving every penny for a baby. But there is also something to be said for R&R with your hubby. Perhaps a small vacation is called for instead of a full blown tropical getaway!

  2. I used to...but now? Not so much. Vacations clear the mind and soul. At least for me they do. And these days, that is priceless. I say go for it.

  3. Vacations are good for your mental state and help your relationship. As the old saying goes, "All work & no play makes Jack a dull boy" totally applies! But I ditto Stephanie, maybe a full blown Caribbean vacation isn't in the cards...but a weekend away at a B&B would be nice!

  4. Yes, sometimes. But like Heather said, vacations and other "you" things are really important going through all of this. It helps you take your mind off of things and regroup. Trust me, as much as I would have loved to save the money on our New York trip we are taking next week, I know my sanity needs it!!!

  5. We've been on this IF journey for many years now and I don't feel guilty about taking vacations or buying things we want. I've spent too much time putting life on hold 'just in case' we stay pregnant.

You should do whatever makes you happy. Life is too short to keep putting things off.

  6. Yep. We're going on a vacation in august, and I feel bad - at least a little bit, about planning to spend money on that instead of saving it. Then again - We can't put our lives on hold, we have to actually live them.
